Jack Sullivan

Jack Sullivan is the Director of Programs at the University of Pennsylvania English Language Programs (ELP). Originally from Illinois, Jack holds a B.A. in Playwriting from Loras College and an M.S.Ed. in TESOL from the University of Pennsylvania. Jack has extensive teaching and administrative experience across the ELP's programs. His areas of interest include English for Specific Purposes, Online Learning, and Advocacy. Before arriving at Penn, he taught English to children for five years in Omiya City (now Saitama City), Japan. Jack has been a site reviewer for the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA) and is a past member of TESOL International Association's Standards Standing Committee.

Nadine Baladi

Nadine Baladi, the current Director of Operations, USA for ILSC Education Group, has been passionate about learning, teaching and building successful ESOL teams for over 20 years. In 2000, she joined the ILSC Education Group as an ESL and FSL (French) instructor and soon became the School Director of the Montreal campus. During these years, Ms. Baladi volunteered on Languages Canada’s Standards Committee. In 2010, Ms. Baladi opened ILSC’s first American campus in San Francisco and since then, she’s become an active member of EnglishUSA, ACCET and NAFSA, and just completed a 3 year cycle as commissioner for ACCET. Nadine holds an M.A. in Second Language Education from McGill University.

Patricia Szasz

Patricia Szasz is Assistant Dean for Language & Professional Programs at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS). Patricia received her bachelor's degree in English language and literature from the University of Michigan and her master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from MIIS. Prior to coming to the Institute, Patricia taught English as foreign language in Milan and Rome, Italy. After graduating from MIIS, Patricia became Director of the Institute's Intensive English Programs. As Assistant Dean, she continues to run programs for language learners as well as language teachers. Patricia has served on the board of California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL) and most recently as Executive Board Treasurer of EnglishUSA.

Bill Wallace

Bill Wallace currently serves as Director of the English Language Institute (ELI) at The University of Alabama (UA). Prior to becoming involved in IEP administration in 1989, he spent 10 years as an ESOL classroom teacher in a variety of settings and institutions, both public and private, in Texas, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Korea.

Dr. Wallace holds a master's degree in TESL from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (1980) and a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama (2003). He has a strong record of service to the field of TESOL and IEP administration, including serving as CEA Commissioner (2011-13), President of UCIEP (1996-97), Chair of ATESL for NAFSA Region VII (1992-93), and President of Alabama-Mississippi TESOL (1991-92).

Bill has extensive experience with IEP student recruitment and in dealing with EducationUSA as well as embassies and agencies which provide funding and/or scholarships for IEP students.

Marcel Bolintiam

Vice-President Elect for Advocacy Marcel Bolintiam, Director ESL Academy, is on the leadership team in the Office of International Affairs, University of Colorado-Denver. His program administration experience spans private and secondary schools, and university-based IEPs in New York, Los Angeles, and Denver. Marcel grew up in Sicily and Spain, and attended high school in the U.K. After graduating from Hobart College, he attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. In his early career, he was responsible for executing strategic communications and public affairs campaigns for nonprofit, government, and corporate clients inside the beltway. He transitioned to the field of international education 14 years ago.

Sean Cochran

Sean Cochran holds an MA in Linguistics from California State University, Fullerton. He lived overseas in Southeast Asia while researching minority languages. He taught grammar, writing, and pronunciation for several years in the US at both the university and community college level before taking on administrative responsibilities. Sean has also taught international professional training workshops, mentored faculty, and advised ESL students. In his current position as Interim Director of the American Language Institute at California State University Long Beach, he manages programs and develops CSU Long Beach's relationship with educational partners around the world.

Sean has presented at TESOL and NAFSA conferences and served on the executive planning committee for other professional conferences. He has also benefited professionally from attending EnglishUSA conferences and speaking with US and foreign government officials here and overseas. Sean current sits on a committee for CSU Long Beach which is responsible for reporting to the international programs division on developing global and government issues while monitoring CSU Long Beach's compliance with US and local policies, including SEVP guidelines.

Lisa Besso

Lisa Besso has worked in international education for more than 15 years. Currently she directs ELS' Pathway program initiatives, working with universities to establish programs and expand degree offerings to international students.

Lisa has worked with several large education providers. With Study Group, she served as Vice President of Operations and Academics for their North American Higher Education division, overseeing all programs and taking their programs through initial accreditation. She managed Study Group's Embassy English division in Australia and New Zealand and served as National Academic Director for Embassy English in the US.

Having lived, taught and managed language programs in several countries, Lisa is passionate about the transformative effect of international experiences for both students and faculty.

Lisa Rooney

Lisa Rooney is Vice President for Institutional Relations at Bridge Education Group. She has a B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of Rhode Island and an M.A. in French from Middlebury College. She has taught French, Spanish and English as a foreign language on three different continents and was a Fulbright recipient in France. In her current role, Lisa liaises with various foreign and domestic universities, organizations and government agencies to develop partnerships involving teacher training, language immersion, and study abroad. Lisa's areas of interest include teaching methodology, language acquisition and learning, linguistics, and intercultural competency.

Bessie Karras-Lazaris

Bessie Karras-Lazaris has over 25 years of experience in higher education. She has 15 years of administrative experience in the Intensive English and International Programs and Partnerships Program at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) having held positions as Academic Director, Associate Director, and Director of Academic Programs and Student Life. In the areas of both administration and teaching, she has worked at California State University, Northridge; Chancellor University and Cleveland State University in OH; community colleges in various states; and language institutes abroad. She holds undergraduate degrees in English and Education from Cleveland, State University; a post-baccalaureate degree from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Greece, School of Philosophy; graduate degrees from Cleveland State University in English and Linguistics, and is TESOL Management Certified.

Bessie is the 2014 CSUN Presidential Award recipient for continuous outstanding service to CSUN, was the 2014 Chair of the LA Regional CATESOL Conference, is a member of the CSU IEP Directors' Consortium, and is faculty in the MA TESOL program at CSUN. She has also served as the Chair of the CATESOL nominating committee. She is a member of various international professional organizations such as NAFSA, TESOL, CATESOL, ENGLISH USA, and IALLT.

Joy MacFarland

Joy MacFarland is originally from the Boston area, lived in Madrid,
Spain for many years, and has also spent time in Mexico and France.  She got her B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies at American University and her M.Ed. from Boston College. She started out her career as an ESL teacher overseas and then started a school in Spain.  She eventually moved back to Boston where she is currently the Director of Outreach and the Boston Center Director for FLS International, a chain of proprietary ESL schools. Joy is also the founder of the Private Language School Special Interest Group for MATSOL in Massachusetts.  She is extremely passionate about our industry and professional development (if she could she would be a professional conference-attendee!).

Thomas Tyner

Thomas Tyner is the director of the American Language Program at California State University, East Bay and currently serves as the Treasurer for EnglishUSA. Prior coming to California, Thomas was director of International Programs and the English Language Institute of Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. He also spent over 5 years in Istanbul, Turkey first as an instructor and then later as administrative director of the English as Foreign Language Department at Isik University. He has an M.A. in Education and Human Development with a concentration in ESL from the George Washington University and a B.A. in history from Wake Forest University. Thomas has also served on the executive board of UCIEP as Communications representative.

Karin Sandler is the Director of the Intensive English Program at North Carolina State University. She received her Bachelor’s in Spanish and Masters of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education both from Georgetown University. In her previous position, she was the Associate Director of the English Language Institute at Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia. In the United States and overseas, Karin has taught all academic skill areas and proficiency levels. Her areas of interest include program management, second language writing, and cross-cultural communication.

Cheryl Delk-Le Good

Cheryl Delk-Le Good has been an active member in the field for more than 20 years. She served as President of EnglishUSA in 2011-12 and as Communications & Promotions on the UCIEP Board from 2006-2011. She served as IEP Network Leader for the International Enrollment Management Knowledge Community for NAFSA through 2016 and completed a term as CEA Commissioner/Treasurer in 2015.  For 15 years, Cheryl served as director and faculty of the Intensive English Program at Georgia State University. Prior to moving to Atlanta, she taught at Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. She earned her BA from Illinois Wesleyan University and MA degrees in French and TESOL at Michigan State University. Her areas of specialization include program administration, curriculum and materials development; she has authored two ESL textbooks and has conducted multiple program and curriculum reviews, nationally and internationally.
