EnglishUSA Strategic Plan 2025-2028 

(approved by EnglishUSA Board, June 17, 2025)

EnglishUSA adopted a comprehensive strategic plan that positions the organization to lead change and support its members in the English language teaching sector through 2028.

The strategic plan, unanimously approved by EnglishUSA's Board of Directors on June 17, 2025, represents the most significant organizational commitment in the association's nearly four-decade history. Developed through an intensive year-long process that included extensive stakeholder engagement and multiple focus groups with constituents across the industry, the plan establishes a bold vision for strengthening the U.S. position as a global leader in English language teaching.

Strategic Priorities

Programs and Services
  • Offer regular programming and networking opportunities that match EnglishUSA's current strengths, strategically support members' diverse needs, and assist in attracting and diversifying membership by program type and staff role

  • Provide, define, enhance, and review up-to-date resources for all membership types and engagement categories

  • Develop programming and provide services that help to create or strengthen strategic alliances

Marketing & Outreach
  • Increase EnglishUSA's brand recognition nationally and internationally

  • Identify and implement recruitment strategies for each membership type

  • Influence perceptions, policies, guidance, and acts related to international student enrollments and English language programming

  • Maintain and develop additional strategic alliances to enhance EnglishUSA's presence and ultimately, member resources and opportunities

  • Provide resources that are accessible to members and non-members to demonstrate the influence of EnglishUSA and foster increased engagement and membership

  • Maintain the Annual Report and seek to expand its reach and demonstrate its value by utilizing its data to inform and benefit English Language Programs

Financial Sustainability
  • Diversify and/or incorporate new and/or improved revenue streams

  • Increase revenue from programming, resources, and events

  • Identify strategies to maximize membership dues to cover operational expenses without deterring membership

Governance
  • Build and maintain a strong vibrant board while nurturing new talent to develop a strong volunteer pool and board pipeline to guide and support EnglishUSA in accomplishing its mission now and into the future

  • Review the committee and governance structures and roles to ensure a strong board and effective use of resources and to assess the needs of the board

  • Incorporate a coordinated approach to volunteering opportunities for board and non-board members

  • Develop a written succession/transition plan for the Executive Director role

Administration
  • Develop, streamline, and review policies, procedures, and tools for the organization, board, and staff

  • Optimize new database, website, online platforms, and systems to maximize our impact in the industry
